News: Workshop on flood risk communication

03. Sep 2025

The Rhine Flood Emergency Community (HWNG Rhein) is hosting a workshop in Cologne in collaboration with the Information and Advice Centre for Flood Prevention (IBH), Cologne Municipal Drainage Services (StEB), the German Committee for Disaster Risk Reduction (DKKV) and the Flood Competence Centre (HKC).

Under the title ‘Communicating flood risk – How can local authorities better raise awareness among those affected?’, the workshop on 9 October 2025 will focus on the role of risk communication in flood prevention. The workshop is aimed at political decision-makers, those responsible for disaster control and hazard prevention, and employees of municipal press offices in Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and the Netherlands. The aim is to develop strategies for local authorities to provide factual information about risks while counteracting so-called ‘flood dementia’.

Participation is free of charge. Registration is required by 2 October 2025 by email to u.eifler@gstbrp.de.
