The town of Bad Münstereifel, which was severely affected by the 2021 floods, is introducing a new flood early warning system.
The town of Bad Münstereifel has installed its own flood early warning system in order to be better prepared for extreme weather events in the future. The system comprises 13 battery-operated, flood-proof sensors that monitor the water level of small streams and the Erft around the clock. The recorded data is combined with weather forecasts and historical measurements to provide early warning of impending floods. The mayor emphasized that the system could provide at least 30 minutes of advance warning. The acquisition costs amounted to around 27,000 euros.
