On 17.10.2023, our symposium on the topic " Die Zukunft ist EREIGNIS-reich, lasst uns vorbereitet sein" (The future is EVENT-rich, let's be prepared) took place in the Stadthaus West in Cologne-Deutz under the moderation of Prof. Dr. Mariele Evers (Institute of Geography at the University of Bonn). In addition to exciting lectures, workshops and exhibitors, the 17th HKC General Meeting also was held.

After the opening address by the Chairperson of the HKC, Ulrike Franzke, our research assistant Helene Meyer gave an overview of the further development of the Hochwasser-Pass to support self-help. This was followed by further presentations, including on FLOODLABELGhana by Prof. Dr. Benjamin Kofi Nyarko from the University of Cape Coast or on the certification of flood protection elements presented by Dipl.-Ing. Bettina Falkenhagen and test engineer Sascha Bues from VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH. Furthermore, Dipl.-Ing. Ralf Bartholomä presented the flood management at the Poldergesellschaft Hafen Hamburg and the ongoing development of the Hochwasser-Pass. In this context, the HKC signed a cooperation partnership
In the afternoon, the 17th general meeting of the HKC took place. Our board members Prof. Dr. Heribert Nacken and Franz-Xaver Corneth were given a farewell. Thank you very much for your support and all the best for your retirement! Prof. Dr. Mariele Evers from the Institute of Geography at the University of Bonn will now take over from Mr. Corneth. In addition, Dr.-Ing. Julian Hoffmann from RWTH Aachen University accepts the position of Speaker of the Advisory Board. Furthermore, we welcome Mr. Ingo Noppen from the Wupperverband and Mr. Hans Jörg Depel as new members of the HKC board and look forward working together!

After the session, the participants were able to gain insights into the AI-supported flood calculation, carried out by Mr Hoffmann from the RWTH, and into the construction of a mobile flood protection wall of the StEB Cologne in VR, carried out by Mr Nacken, through two different workshops.
The event ended on the LVR observation tower. We received exciting impressions on the heavy rain and flood protection of the city of Cologne with a view over Cologne.
Our two heavy rain + flood info-mobiles were also on site. Numerous citizens were given advice. The WDR interviewed the advisors for a report. More information will follow shortly.

We thank all participants and speakers for the successful event and look forward to the next time!
