Acceptance for river restoration and retention measures – methods for societal discourse and participation

This research initiative of the German Flood Competence Centre develops tailored communication strategies and participation methods for river restoration and retention. In collaboration of the Lippeverband (German water authority in the Northern Ruhr Area) and Utrecht University (Thomas Hartmann), this project aims at developing a research design for an action research on this topic, which shall lead to a funded research project.

Intermediate results of the pre-study are presented at the congress of AESOP Association of European Schools of Planning 2015 in a paper by Matthijs Roos (Omniplan and Universität Utrecht), Thomas Hartmann (Universität Utrecht) and Georg Johann (EGLV) on „Constructing risks – Internalisation of flood risks using the process of the flood risk management plan“. A publication of the paper is foreseen.

For further information don’t hestitate to contact the project managers (you may approach Thomas Hartmann in English, Dutch or German).
